Overview of Seylynn Village and Possible NSUC Involvement
The New Building Task Force has explored the possibility of designing and building our new church facilities within Seylynn Village, a new, multiuse project being developed by Hynes Development Inc. (HDI or Hynes) in the District of North Vancouver.
Seylynn Village (or SV) is a mixed-use development proposed by Hynes just off the Capilano College exit from Highway 1, bordered by Fern Street on the south and Mountain Highway on the west. (See Location). It will consist of 700 housing units, as well as commercial, retail and community uses, located on a 5.7 acre site that Hynes assembled and owns. The stated goal of Seylynn Village is to create a socially and environmentally sustainable urban village.
More details about Seylynn Village and its development team can be found on HDI's Seylynn Village website.
The Task Force has explored with HDI the possibility of NSUC acquiring, as its new church, two or more floors of a 4-story high quality building to be built within SV at the highly visible corner of Fern Street and Mountain Highway. The new church would be designed by an outstanding architect with whom NSUC would work closely to assure that the new facilities meet our needs and desires and would be built by Hynes as part of the overall construction program for the village.
NSUC would remain in its present buildings at 370 Mathers Avenue during the design and construction of the new church, and Hynes would continue to pursue the rezoning of the Mathers property under our existing purchase and sale agreement. When the new church is complete, NSUC would pay for its acquisition by applying most of the net proceeds from the sale of the Mathers property, and would move directly from Mathers into the new church.
